23 years of celebrating Great Southern businesses

The Chamber’s first business awards were held in August 1999 with 45 people attending and quickly grew in numbers under the presidency of Michael Pemberton. Today, the highly anticipated annual ‘ACCI Great Southern Business Awards’ officially launches for 2022, with the event focusing on celebrating the achievements of Great Southern businesses and business people over the last 12 months.

Businesses are the bread and butter of our communities, and have the ability to regularly impact the daily lives of their customers and clients. They greatly contribute to our local schools, sporting clubs and community groups to ensure that we as a region continue to thrive. It is important that we take a moment to acknowledge some of the great contributions, achievements, services, and even the unique personal touches our Great Southern businesses provide.

This year, the Albany Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who present the awards evening, is encouraging nominations from businesses across the Great Southern to get involved with this year’s awards to recognise regional business achievements. Chamber Chief Executive Officer Lisa Smith, discussed the range of ways people can get involved with the awards this year.

“There are various award categories for people to nominate a business for and acknowledge how they have been positively impacted by that business. Businesses can also nominate themselves for up to 3 categories and of course everyone in the community is invited to attend the Business Award Gala Night presentation and celebration at the Albany Entertainment Centre on October 29th where we will celebrate the achievements of our outstanding Great Southern businesses” she said.

“We as a Great Southern community, have many regular interactions with our local businesses that can completely change the way we go about our day. I believe it is important we take a moment to celebrate and recognise those exceptional businesses and business people within our community.”

Nominations are open until 5pm, Friday 2 September for residents, community groups and other businesses to nominate a business or person they feel deserves wide praise and recognition.

Businesses who are nominated in this year’s ‘ACCI Great Southern Business Awards’ will be invited to submit an application when they open on 22 August.
